Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. Please read my story
My life drastically changed after a series of heart breaking events in my personal life over a short space of 8 months , the finale of me being informed on 27th May 2022 ,on my third requested return visit (in as many weeks) from a routine mammogram, that they suspected the mass that they had found ,well hidden, was cancer. I was on my own and for some reason my friend Jane was ready at the end of the phone to talk to the nurses on what the next steps were.
From the moment I was told this news I felt I was in the eye of a storm as the calmness and kindness given to me made me feel that time had paused and it wasn’t really happening to me and it was a little like if it was happening to a third person who was still me?
After being told by the hospital that I should still go on my planned holiday in a week with Jane , whilst we waited for the biopsy results, we returned to be told that I had stage two invasive cancer
I had moved into a new home the day before my diagnosis and instantly my friends and family took over my life for the next few weeks , when I suppose I was in shock, they took time off work to stay with me and ferry me to the hospital for my appointments and sit with me whilst I tried to work through it all.
I have had the initial major surgery, radiotherapy and further surgery last summer; I have regular check-ups along with monthly injections and tablets that I will be having for the foreseeable future to try and keep the cancer from returning
Now time has passed, and I feel like I have a life to look forward to, this cycle trip popped up on Facebook and my trusted friend Jane of over 37 years (a bit like Tonto) jumped at the chance of doing an amazing trip for an amazing charity with me.
We will be cycling 400Km across Vietnam to Cambodia at the end of November 2024 to hopefully raise awareness and funds for such an amazing charity and I do hope that after you have read this that you will sponsor us, no matter how large or small the donation, it will all help.
And my last note is for all the women out there please please ensure you attend your mammograms when called up, as I am afraid to say that if I hadn’t attended, I may not of been writing this now.
The cycle ride is for Women V Cancer and Breast Cancer Now is one of the charities along with Ovarian and Cervical Cancers http://www.breastcancernow.org/.
