Robin Hood Half Marathon 2023 · 24 September 2023 ·

We’re the UK’s leading bowel cancer charity. We’re determined to save lives and improve the quality of life of everyone affected by bowel cancer. Our vision is a future where nobody dies of the disease.

Story

On September 24th I will be running the Robin Hood Half Marathon in honour of my husband Iain, who died from bowel cancer in June 2022 at the age of 63.

In the autumn of 2021 Iain developed vague abdominal symptoms which didn't seem too concerning, but just before Christmas of that year we learnt that he had stage 4 bowel cancer. Despite extensive surgery followed by chemotherapy he died less than six months later, which was devastating for us as a family, and for all of his friends.

I would like to use my running to raise money for Bowel Cancer UK which is the UK’s leading bowel cancer charity. The charity funds targeted research, provides expert information and support to patients and their families, educates the public and professionals about the disease, and campaigns for early diagnosis and access to best treatment and care.
