Story
I am taking on the Great North Run for Derian House Children's Hospice in Chorley 10 years after the last time I competed. When we have lost a loved one in our family, we have asked for donations for this amazing charity. They provide care and respite for children with life limiting or life shortening conditions. To provide their services to the babies, children and families of the North West of England it costs them over £6m this year - with less than 30% of this provided by any statutory funding.
My friend's nephew was at Derian House briefly and his legacy lives on with the provision of Rory's Boxes to those who are living any parents worst nightmare. https://www.facebook.com/rorysbox/. I run with the memory of my Mum who wanted to support Derian House and did so when she passed away and for Rory.
The Great North Run is one of the countries most well known and successful runs. This half marathon is a 13.1 mile journey through the city centre and surrounding areas. The route will take runners towards the River Tyne where thousands of people will cross over the famous Tyne Bridge. The streets will be packed with spectators who have come from far and wide to cheer their friends and family on!
