Story
In memory of Will, and to fundraise for The Wave Project, I have registered for a challenge of a lifetime, to trek to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa.
At 5,895 metres, Kilimanjaro is the world’s highest free-standing mountain. The 63.5km trek goes through dense tropical rainforest, moorland, and scree to reach the highest point, in the arctic zone. This ‘extreme’ challenge will push me right out of my comfort zone, trekking for 6 consecutive days, at high altitude and in varied temperatures, not to mention the 6 nights camping out!
I learnt about the fundraising opportunity via The Wave Project’s newsletter. As many of you will know, this was a charity that we supported following the tragic loss of Will in June 2022. We felt their work would have been close to his heart, improving the mental health and wellbeing of young people through the power of surf therapy.
Will has left us to go on his next great adventure, so this challenge is mine to take, embracing the ultimate trekking experience and generally ‘being a bit more Will’. I have no doubt though, that even though Will is sadly no longer with us, he’ll be with me every step of the way, getting me to the top of the mountain.
I have committed to raise the minimum sponsorship of almost £6,000 over the next few months and would therefore greatly appreciate your support, by donating as generously as you can.
This is how your money could help children and young people….
£180 – Specially adapted child’s wetsuit
£300 – Surfboard
£700 - £1000 –a 6-week surf therapy programme
£750 – Adaptive surfboard
£1500 – Changing table for children with disabilities.
