Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I volunteer with Cambridge City Foodbank and see how much the support they offer helps households who are struggling.
I turn 60 on May 17th this year and am somewhat horrified by that number - I mean, I’m still 17 in my head! Whilst trying to think of something to do on the day to take my mind off that number, I came across the Outlaw Half Nottingham weekend. Having grown up in Nottingham and volunteered at Skylarks (which was then an accessible holiday activity centre) in the summer between school and university, it was obviously meant to be. With arthritis in both knees and no longer being able to run further than 10k, a half iron was out of the question so I have entered the sprint distance which is actually on my birthday.
Swim 750m - in a lake, in a wetsuit when I can only do old lady head up breaststroke and every time I try in the wetsuit I think I’m going to drown
Bike - 19km - on my 10 year old pootling about town hybrid
Run - 5km - on my arthritic knees
What could possibly go wrong??
This is definitely my last “event”. There’s just under 12 weeks to go, I’ve been training and I’m already shattered. I’m not doing this again.
So it seemed a good idea to use the day to raise some funds for an excellent cause. The food bank needs food, obviously, and thank you all for putting a tin or two in the collection when you go shopping. They also need money - to buy food to fill the gaps in donations, to rent the warehouse to store sort and pack the food, to run the van to deliver the food boxes to the distribution centres and to run the office for the inevitable paperwork.
I’m going to be putting myself out there for all the seasoned triathletes to laugh at, can you spare a pound or two to make it worthwhile?
