Story

Hello and thanks again so much to everyone who has made such generous donations, including all the anonymous donors who I've not been able to thank personally.

Every donation makes a direct and positive difference to people in Sussex receiving cancer treatment through the many ways the Sussex Cancer Fund supports patients.

If you want to watch our wing walk, please click on the link below. Again, many thanks.

During 2022 I had treatment for breast cancer.

I received the best possible care from the NHS teams involved in looking after me at the Park Centre for Breast Care, the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Princess Royal Hospital, Queen Victoria Hospital, Lewes Victoria Hospital and the Sussex Cancer Centre.

To celebrate my recovery, my niece Alex and I will be wing walking at Headcorn Aerodrome in Kent on Monday 22 May 2023 (weather permitting!) to raise money for the Sussex Cancer Fund. This is an organisation who work together with the NHS to make life better for cancer patients in Sussex, meaning that during their care it's likely that every single cancer patient in Sussex will benefit from something they have funded. Along with funding vital research many of the things they provide, such as refreshments in the waiting rooms, comfortable treatment gowns and adjustable treatment chairs, made getting through my chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatment so much easier. The Sussex Cancer Fund also fund on-site massage therapy and I was able to have some relaxing and restorative massages from the incredibly skilled Full Circle Fund therapist during my chemotherapy appointments. In addition, the Sussex Cancer Fund donate funds to the Horizon Centre, a purpose-built facility opposite the Sussex Cancer Centre. This is a calm and friendly place where I was supported throughout the course of my treatments with help and information, complementary therapies and counselling, as well as being able to use the relaxing light and sound room or sit in their garden overlooking the sea.

A bit about wing walking – it’s an airborne flight, where you are secured to the rig on top of an aeroplane, flying between 100-700ft high at a speed of between 80-110mph.

You can read more about the Sussex Cancer Fund, the incredible work they do and how they allocate their funds in the link below.

If you could please spare a donation to help us reach our target that would be wonderful – thank you very much!
