We are running the Cardiff Half Marathon for the first time to support Tŷ Hafan Children’s Hospice after they cared for my beautiful nephew Matthew in Summer 2023. 💙

On 6th July 2023, Matthew was born by emergency C-Section. Matthew was diagnosed with Dilated Cardiomyopathy and spent three weeks in the neonatal intensive care unit at the University Hospital of Wales.

On July 31st Matthew went to Tŷ Hafan, where we were able to make wonderful memories as a family. The care they provided to Matthew was amazing and they were always there for us whenever we needed.

After three weeks, Matthew was able to come home in August 2023 and Tŷ Hafan continued to offer their support to our family.

Sadly, Matthew passed away on August 23rd 2023 at 7 weeks old. He will always be a part of our lives and thanks to the care and dedication of everyone who helped look after Matthew, we were able to meet our lovely boy and make amazing memories which will stay with us forever.

We are running the Cardiff Half Marathon on Sunday 6th October to raise money in Matthew’s memory. Matthew was a fighter and we wanted to challenge ourselves to help Tŷ Hafan to continue to provide their incredible support to families who are going through such a tough time.
