Story

4 hedgehog parents hammering their legs up those hills to raise money for the Sheen Mount kiddies and Holly Lodge in Richmond Park

Luci: (Louis' Mum)

-Armed with enthusiasm and next to no cycling experience, Luci is taking on Bath to Sheen Mount like an absolute legend. A local GP and mum of three boys (all starting at the school in September), she’s fallen off more times than she can count, still wrestling with cleats, and often covered in bruises—yet always smiling.

Backed by the wild camaraderie of her fellow cycling maniacs, she’s getting stronger with every mile. She’s doing it for her boys, for the school, and to show the girls how it’s done—with grit, grace, and a grin as wide as the road.

Scott: (Harriet's Dad)

Scott has emerged from his man shed, his face often cloaked in a mask of honest trail mud. This South African is a rolling vault of general knowledge, he’s our guide through both facts and flats, ready to patch a tyre or a silence with equal skill

Nick: (Bruce's Dad)

‘I like cycling cause I need to burn off the beer’ clearly dedicated and passionate about education , his area of expertise. It’s not his first rodeo – with thighs bigger than your house, face power house will make Cornwall look like Kensington.

Andrew: (Kit's Dad)

-After spending the past year living in a building site l, Andrew has decided that cycling 300+ miles is the logical next step. With a dry sense of humour that sneaks up on you like a stealth attack, he’ll keep the peloton entertained with one-liners and deadpan observations. A proud dad to two boys, Andrew is riding for sanity, scenery, and maybe just a little bit of peace and quiet. No stranger to endurance—be it from DIY chaos or parenting—he’s ready to swap power tools for pedal power.

We are raising money for Sheen Mount school to enrich all of our childrens’ education and school experience. We are currently raising money to improve the outdoor areas of the school for sports and well-being, as well as providing funds for learning and enrichment materials requested by the staff that are not covered by government funding.

This year we have also chosen to support the Holly Lodge Centre. Holly Lodge is a unique and exceptional education Centre in the heart of Richmond Park.

Holly Lodge brings learning about Science, Nature and History to life for all. They specialise in providing outstanding workshops for schools and delivering bespoke sensory sessions for children and adults with special educational needs and disabilities.

To persuade sponsors to part with their money; 100 intrepid parents are undertaking a significant mental and physical challenge. 60 of the parents are undertaking a ride from Lands End in Cornwall to Sheen Mount School in South West London. This involves three days of cycling, they will be joined on the third day by another 40 brave individuals for the final leg; 100 miles from Bath back to Sheen Mount. To enable this, there is 16 weeks of training to complete before the event!

The prolog; takes riders from Lands End to Hayle, a distance of 30Km and 260m of climbing.

Day 1. Sees the riders tackle a monster of a day, that will test even the most experienced riders. The route takes the riders from Hayle to Exeter, crossing Cornwall and both Bodmin and Dartmoor. Over the course of 195Km the riders will ascend a massive 2300m; this is the equivalent of a Tour de France stage (this years Stage 7 is almost identical in profile).

Day 2 is a relative rest compared with the exploits of the day before. It is a mere 135Km and 1300m of elevation taking the riders from Exeter to the beautiful city of Bath. This means tackling the stunning landscape of Cheddar Gorge en-route.

Day 3 is where the ride really comes together. The main ride will be joined by the remaining 40 parents. Here the super peloton will come together to tackle the Sheen Mount 100. The route takes riders 170km (Just over the 100 Mile Mark) from Bath in the West to Sheen Mount in South West London. The riders will ascend from Bath until they hit the Thames Valley in a day of 1400m of ascent.

All of the riders will then finish back at a picnic at school on Sunday 29th June to celebrate with the charities, their families, the sponsors and their friends/fans!

This is a significant challenge with something to offer new riders that are training to do the cycling equivalent of running a Marathon and experienced riders learning what a 3 day stage ride is really about. The commitment we have already seen has been life changing for some. They have optimised their lives, diets and exercise around this ride!

Dig Deep this is really really big as far as personal challenges go!

Thank you for your support.
