Story
I've got a big birthday coming up. There's nothing like getting older to, well, make you think about getting older!
As many of you know, I have a chronic illness (fibromyalgia) which at times affects my cognitive function - forgetting words mid-sentence or not being able to find them in the first place; forgetting I've got a pot of pasta boiling on the hob and taking the dog for a walk; finding my keys in the fridge etc. I am fortunate that my impairment is mild and for the most part, just a collection of amusing anecdotes. I've changed career twice due to it, but I manage to live independently and it's unlikely to get any worse. It's not the same by any means, but on bad days, I feel like I have a small window into how scary it must be to have the early stages of dementia.
By 2025, 1 million people will be living with dementia in the UK, and many millions more carers, partners, families and friends are affected. People over 65 are most at risk from the symptoms of dementia and this year, my workplace (Bipsync) is supporting The Alzheimer's Society to complete vital research and provide support to all those who are affected by this horrific disease.
In recent years, I've become known for my ever-changing, long rainbow hair. Some people have never known it a natural colour! So I've decided to shave it all off to raise money for this incredible cause. We're talking armpit length to buzz cut in one day. I appreciate any donations you can make to support me looking like a potato for the next year or more while it grows back! Please get your donations in before the day of the Big Chop, which will be one month from today - 17th February 2023! (& yes of course there will be photos/videos!)
Seriously, thank you <3
