Story

Update……25/26 May 2024

WE DID IT!!!!!

One of the hardest things I’ve ever done but as a team we pulled together and crossed the finishing line!! The weather threw everything at us. With our 15 kilo bags and compasses, we clambered up and down steep narrow ledges, over river crossings, (never my strongest point) over styles and over boulders whilst trying to avoid the bogs and elephant grass always rushing to get to the next tor to meet our check point times.

After trekking 25 miles and 14 hours on the first day, we set up our tents in failing light wind and rain, cold wet and shattered. A 07.00 start the following morning got us across the finishing line 14 gruelling miles later, minutes after the red team, to a fantastic reception of families and friends and our support team.

It was challenging but working as a team got us through the low points together. An endurance experience we all learnt so much from but wish we could have done it with younger bodies!!! It was an experience from which young people can draw so much.

Thank you everybody who has supported South Dartmoor School Ten Tors charity through JustGiving. More students can enrol for Ten Tors & Duke of Edinburgh Award schemes in future years thanks to you!!

On the 25th & 26th May, I’m taking part in the 35 mile adult 2024 Ten Tors Trek Challenge. My goal is to help the Friends of South Dartmoor Academy raise invaluable funds to buy loanable equipment from sleeping bags, tents, coats etc.. to outward bound courses. This funding will ensure there is no financial barrier for the many students wanting to join the students’ Army Ten Tors Challenge and the Duke of Edinburgh Awards Scheme every year. Students parents and teachers are seeing the life changing skills such as independence, confidence and leadership these experiences bring whilst having fun.

If you want to help change a young person’s life, I’d be really grateful of your donation.

Thank you,

Heather
