Story
Our corporate charity for 2023 is Kangaroos Disability Clubs, an amazing organisation which delivers fun, social activities in a supported setting for young people with learning disabilities in Mid Sussex.
Our intrepid team of Simon Green, Jeremy Green, Charmaine Oliver and Alex Brunjes are cycling the South Down's Way in aid of this fantastic charity. They'll tackle the 100 miles of rugged terrain with 3000m elevation gain from Winchester to Eastbourne, and need your sponsorship to spur them on!
Kangaroos gives so many benefits to its members. We’re aiming to raise £4000, which could provide the following:
- An amazing day out for over 100 family members to a theme park, such as Harry Potter World
Family fun days are where families with disabled children and adults, including siblings who often get overlooked, can come together to enjoy a day out with all the organisation taken care of, and everybody is are supported in a safe and friendly environment.
Feedback from previous family day trips:
‘It is good to mix with other families and know that it will be an easy day out with everything covered.’
‘It helps my son feel more involved in my daughter’s world and provides opportunities for us all to have fun together.’
Or, it could pay for 10 young people with a range of learning disabilities and additional needs to spend a night at a residential activity centre.
Activities at the centre are fully inclusive so everyone, whatever their abilities, gets a chance to ‘have a go’ at zipwires, archery, tunneling, high ropes, bushcraft, orienteering, and an evening around a campfire with their friends.
For some young people this might be the only opportunity they have to enjoy an overnight stay independently from their families.
Feedback from a previous trip:
“S had an amazing time at Hindleap, thanks to everyone. So delighted he made a friend with J and seemed to really love it!”
Such activities provide a host of benefits to members of Kangaroos by pushing themselves out of their comfort zones, overcoming their fears and supporting each other to achieve their goals.
Their confidence is increases by trying new activities, and it allows them valuable time to spend with other members and to make new friendships.
It also enables parents/carers to have precious respite and quality time to spend with their other family members.
Thank you so much for your support!
