Story
Our inspiration for this trek is George Fox our late nephew/cousin. In April 2022 and at the tender age of 13 years George cruelly lost his life to a Glioblastoma brain tumour, less than a year after being diagnosed with the tumour. The period from his diagnosis to death was spent receiving out of date treatment aimed at prolonging his life but with 0% chance of survival.
Due to lack of funding treatments haven’t changed for years and funding from the government into this type of cancer is extremely poor. Families have to rely on charities like Brain tumour research to boost the funding for research and we will be supporting them in George’s memory in the hope that other families will not have to face the same inevitable outcome that we had to.
Amy (George’s cousin) and myself (George’s Auntie) will be completing a 50km trek in March 2025 across the Sahara Desert. We are funding the cost of this trip ourselves so ALL money raised by any donations received will go to the Brain tumour research charity.
This is 3 days of no toilets , no showers , lots of creatures/wildlife which we hope not to come face to face with. Carrying our belongings up and down sand dunes sweating in the daytime heat to feeling the cold air of the desert nights.
We are excited for this challenge and proud to be doing this in honour of George, whatever we face however hard it is we know George was the biggest warrior and we always swore to be a little more George.
Please help us smash our target , this amount will cover vital research and as brain tumours kill more children and adults under 40 it is imperative we do all we can as the governments 1% funding is just not good enough.
We will post updates on this page of how our training is going our fundraising ideas and of course take lots of photos while on the trek.
Hayley & Amy xx
