Story
On the 17th August I set off for Tanzania for my biggest physical challenge to date, as I aim to make it to the summit of Kilimanjaro at nearly 6,000m!
I am doing this to raise awareness and funds for Rafiki Thabo Foundation, a charity I am a passionate patron for.
Rafiki Thabo is a small charity that has an incredible impact on the lives of children and young people in Kenya, Uganda and Lesotho. Their vision is that young people, including those living with disabilities, will be empowered through education to enable them to reach their full potential and initiate positive change in their communities. They do this by providing scholarships to the most vulnerable in society, by providing school meals, and by improving school learning environments.
I believe whole-heartedly that every child regardless of background or ability has the right to an education, and in the UK we are fortunate that this is the case. The reality in Uganda is very different: one year at secondary school for one child costs 2/3 of the average annual household income... An impossibility for most families, leaving children out of school and trapped in the poverty cycle.
So, I have set myself a huge fundraising target of £10,000. This will pay for the entire 5-year secondary education for six children and give them the best chance of a brighter future. Every donation will make an enormous difference: with only £8 a child will receive a daily nutritious school meal for one month, enabling them to concentrate on their schoolwork!
Thank you so much for any support you feel able to give!
