Story
As many of you know, I ride at Wimbledon Village Stables (and by virtue I would say I am a little bit horse crazy), which organises the longest running, most successful Sponsored Horse Ride since its inception 46 years ago. Over the years the Ride has gone from strength to strength, thousands of people have taken part and they have raised over £1,000,000 for various national and local charities.
The ride takes place over a 10-mile course across Wimbledon Common and Richmond Park and to make it a bit more fun, everyone dresses up in Fancy Dress. Before we start the ride there is a wonderful parade down Wimbledon Village High Street.
I am raising money for the Cancer and Pisces Trust, in memory of its founder and trustee Mick May, who I had the great honour of knowing for the last five years of his life during his long and courageous battle with mesothelioma.
Cancer and Pisces is a club open only to those with cancer, along with their carers. Its purpose is to use the well-documented therapy of fishing to aid those undergoing the trauma of cancer. A lifelong angler, Mick’s love of fishing gave him a special sense of peace, respite, and quiet enjoyment during his final years. He set up the charity to give others with cancer the same experience. Founded in 2021 and now with a proven model and track record, Cancer and Pisces is expanding and your donations will support the launch of a new fishing site next year, with some 60 cancer patients each month benefitting from Cancer and Pisces’ services.
