Story
Do you wish to join myself and my fellow critical care colleagues in helping to raise funds to support patients and families alike, in what can be the most difficult time in their lives?
8 Critical Care nurses, who work at the William Harvey Critical Care Unit, are raising money by undertaking the 'Three Peaks Challenge' in 24 hours, in aid of East Kent Hospitals Charity, 'Three Wishes Project.'
Our vision at East Kent hospitals, William Harvey Critical Care Unit, is to improve the quality of the end-of-life experience for patients, and their loved ones. We aim to do this by connecting the 'Three Wishes Project' with all patients at our critical care unit.
The Three Wishes Project, is an end-of-life programme, that honours the dignity of dying patients, by fostering meaningful connections amongst patients, loved ones and clinicians alike. With the aim of dignifying a patient's death, and celebrating their lives, whilst allowing loved ones to humanise the dying process and creating positive memories at end-of-life by granting three wishes.
Information about the Three Wishes project;
The 3 Wishes project began in Canada in 2013 and has been adopted across the world. EKHUFT is the first UK Trust to introduce this project, and we hope it will bring comfort to our patients and their families: sharing kindness and compassion at the end of someones life when, despite everyone's best efforts, it has not been possible to save them.
The Critical Care team, work with patients and loved ones to honour and celebrate them as an individual, and to fulfil their wishes as they approach the end of their life.
The project gives patients the chance to reflect on their lives, and to identify what matters most to them. It allows families to spend precious time with their loved one, creating meaningful moments in those last hours and days. Each wish is a simple, personalised request reflecting a patients passion or need as they approach the end of their life.
The 3 Wishes project is funded entirely by donations to East Kent Hospitals Charity.
The Three Peaks Challenge:
Ben Nevis in Scotland (1085m)
Scafell Pike in England (978m)

The challenge is to climb the three highest mountains in mainland Britain within a timescale of 24 hours including a total driving distance of 462 miles.
We will be completing this on Tuesday the 19th of September, and all support will be greatly appreciated,
Please can you share this page far and wide to enable us to raise as much funds as possible for an organisation that has, and will play a key part in so many critical care patients, and their families lives.
