Dear family and friends ❤️

I write to you from Les Vans, France on the 9th of December 2022, almost a week before my twenty-fourth birthday on the 18th. If you know me, you very likely know my fondness for animals and nature. (I try not to talk about it too much so as not to annoy you all, but I am sorry if I sometimes slip up.) For my twelfth birthday, as some of you may remember, I collected donations for tigers with the World Wildlife Fund. Twelve years later, for my twenty-fourth birthday, I am ready to dedicate the year again to animals. Instead of gifts, I am asking for donations of any amount to my birthday fundraiser. I really mean any amount: there is no suggested donation, and every little penny means the world in my eyes.

I have thought a great deal -- for several weeks, in fact -- about the specific charity I would choose for this fundraiser. I have ultimately decided to work with The Humane League, as it is an organisation with the highest possible rating on Animal Charity Evaluators. In other words, I wanted to work with a highly effective charity, so that every euro, dollar and pound goes as far as it can go.

Whether you have been in my life for one month or all 288, thank you so much for being a part of my roundabout, sometimes strange, sometimes impractical, but always interesting life over these past twenty-four years. Your kindness, humour, support and all your little favours do not go unnoticed by me. With lots of love in my heart,

Os escribo desde Francia, el 9 de diciembre de 2022, casi una semana antes de mi cumpleaños. Si me conoces, es muy probable que sepas de mi afición por los animales y la naturaleza. (Intento no hablar demasiado de ella para no molestaros, pero lo siento si a veces lo hago). A los doce años, como algunos tal vez recordaréis, pedí para mi cumpleaños donativos para los tigres en lugar de regalos. Doce años después, quiero volver a dedicar el año a los animales. En lugar de regalos, pido donativos de cualquier cantidad para mi colecta de cumpleaños. De verdad, pueden ser de cualquier cantidad: no hay un donativo sugerido, y cada céntimo significa un montón para mí.

He pensado mucho -de hecho, durante varias semanas- en la organización benéfica que elegiría para esta colecta. Al final he decidido trabajar con The Humane League, ya que es una organización con la calificación más alta de Animal Charity Evaluators. En otras palabras, quería trabajar con una organización muy eficaz para poder usar estos donativos de la forma más eficiente posible.

Tanto si has estado en mi vida un mes como si has estado los 288, gracias de corazón por formar parte de mi vida, a veces extraña, a veces poco práctica, pero siempre interesante, durante estos últimos veinticuatro años.
