Story
On the 29th July, Ian and I will be walking 25.1 miles alongside colleagues from the Leeds Building Society Mortgage Lending Department, starting and finishing in Grassington via Bolton Abbey.
We are doing this to raise funds for Bliss Cavalier Rescue - a cause very near to our hearts since we welcomed our gorgeous rescue girls Margot and Petal into our families.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are a wonderful breed but unfortunately due to a lack of regulation in breeding and poor breeding practices the breed is now riddled with health issues causing more and more to be surrendered to rescue.
Margot came from a breeding farm where she had her first litter at less than one year old, she had serious problems with her joints and an undiagnosed neurological condition.
Petal was surrendered to rescue from a breeding farm because she had nearly lost all of her sight from misdiagnosed cataracts, while also have an undiagnosed neurological condition.
While under the care of Bliss both girls received life changing operations and were given second chances in life before joining the Short pack earlier this year - to join our existing boys Tommy and Barney. They are both wonderful characters and have gained so much confidence in the time they've been living with us - we couldn't imagine life without them and can safely say we're now rescue families and would never look to get puppies again knowing what we do.
Because of the rising cost of living, more and more people are having to surrender their dogs to rescues like Bliss especially those with such prevalent health conditions and we'd like to ease their burden. We are hoping to raise at least £500 for Bliss, but would love to raise more to help them support other dogs like Margot and Petal so they can find their forever homes too. Anything we raise will be matched up to 75% by Leeds Building Society (with as much as £1000 available to be matched) so we're hoping to raise as much as possible to get the most of this!
