Story
Hello my names is Hannah and I am an ADHD UK Ambassador. I am a late diagnosed autistic ADHDER. Before I was diagnosed I spent a long time in hospital mainly under section. While my diagnosis saved my life, gave me an explanation for the way I view the world, allowed me to realise I wasn’t broken, a failure or an attention seeking problem, I received no support or guidance to navigate my diagnosis. A diagnosis in itself is a privilege but a diagnosis is much more than just a label- it has the chance to help you find your authentic self and your true identity. Without it is ADHDers have a huge disadvantage in life (including much higher rates of having involvement with the criminal justice system, addiction and mental health to name a few). As part of my roles as an Ambassador for ADHD UK, I have to raise £500 a year for the charity. ADHD is under research and under funded. As part of my role I will be fighting to get the voice of ADHD heard. Advocating for the rights, for fairness and support. I also want to help people find their own unique way to live and thrive. For this I am planning a series of identity through creativity. This is very much a work in progress and the details will be shared on my social media @legallydetained
All funds will go directly to ADHD UK and the much needed work for social justice for ADHD people.
Message from ADHD UK
Having ADHD or ADD is a challenge - both for the individual and for the people around them. We are here to help people face the challenge. But we want more than just-about-coping. We want to help people to find their unique way and thrive.
We aim to do that through warm hearted support, quality relatable information, campaigning to raise awareness and empathy, advocating for ADHD/ADD politically, fighting for fair NHS & Education resources, and challenging employers to put in adjustments that work and create ADHD/ADD inclusivity.
