Story
I am going to run 100k in January to raise money for SCAD U.K.
Those who are close with our family will be aware that my mum, Helen, suffered a heart attack out of the blue in November, shortly after she lost her mum. After a night in hospital, we were told it was something called SCAD (Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection).
My mum has always been extremely active, does not drink or smoke, and eats well. SCAD is a serious heart condition which is striking healthy women and men who you probably wouldn't think would be at risk of having a heart attack.
During mum's stay in hospital no-one could tell her why this happened, or if it would happen again. She had medical students and research teams round her bed asking her questions to learn more about the condition. Put simply, there is just not enough research available. She is now on medication for life to help prevent this happening again.
SCAD survivors are supported by an incredible team of researchers in Leicester at the Glenfield Hospital & NIHR Biomedical Research Centre, led by Dr David Adlam (https://scad.lcbru.le.ac.uk/), but there is simply not enough funding for the research that is required.
Beat SCAD are working to raise £25,000 to support a new Clinical Research Fellow to work alongside the team of researchers in Leicester.
Anything you can afford is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your support!
