This year I’m going to be running the London marathon in April and a 50km Ultra marathon in June to raise money for Air Ambulance UK.

On the 14th of September 2024 my life turned upside down after receiving a call from my mum saying ‘dads had a cardiac arrest’. He was out running on the back roads of mid Wales. Our hero Lee Nicholson was there at the time of the event and was able to start CPR straight away, the emergency services were all involved and he was then airlifted to Cardiff in 25 minutes which is amazing. He then spent days in intensive care ventilated and sedated at Cardiff hospital where he had the best treatment from all the fabulous doctors and healthcare professionals. We as a family are extremely lucky to have a happy ending to our story and have him home with us, and he’s even got back to doing some running.

The statistics show that less than 1 in 10 people survive an out of hospital cardiac arrest. It is a time critical emergency and for the best outcomes it requires immediate action. I have chosen to fundraise for Air Ambulance UK as each lifesaving mission costs £4000 and they are a charity run service. Without this service and the care they provided for my dad, I’m not sure we would still have the same happy outcome.
