Story
Rewind to 2023, my nephew at the age of 2 was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder and Global Development Delay. Not long after this diagnoses it was time for him to start preschool - weeks after joining a mainstream local pre school conversation started that the preschool were unable to meet and support his needs. They advised he would require more support then they could provide and needed an environment that would be set up in a way he could thrive and be safe.
This is when we were introduced to the Children's Respite Trust. My nephew now attends their SEN pre school which provides him with a safe and suitable environment with the level of support require for him to thrive, develop and play!
My nephew has 2 older siblings that have also had to adjust to their brother's complex needs, the Children Respite Trust not only support the disabled child but run days out, activities and groups for their siblings and the whole family.
I have also recently rejoined the gym and on a little mission to become healthier and more active for my overall wellbeing - therefore thought signing up for the run would be a great way to stay accountable and add meaning to my fitness training!
The mission of the Children's Respite Trust is to ensure that no family has to care for a disabled child alone. When the Trust was founded in 2010, it was clear that far too many families faced unbearable pressures of living with the care needs of a disabled child and still do today. Events like the Adventure Run fund vital services that mean families are given the room to breathe.'
