Story
I'm delighted (and pretty nervous!) to be running the 2025 TCS London Marathon in support of The Fire Fighters Charity.
Growing up in a farming community, I am acutely aware of the invaluable service fire fighters provide.
As some of you may know, last December I was involved in a traumatic hit and run car crash on the M6, where I spiralled across the lanes as a result of the impact, over the barrier and ended up trapped upside down in a wood.
My phone was flung into the trees, meaning I couldn't contact anyone for help and nobody stopped to check if I was okay.
Thankfully my car had an SOS button which I kept pressing, along with honking the horn, and after a while, I heard sirens. A fire fighter shortly approached the vehicle and was shocked to find me alive.
The crews did a tremendous job of calming me down and getting me out of my vehicle safely and quickly. Not only did they help lower my blood pressure and manage the shock by talking to me about farming, but found items in the wreckage, photographed the scene and recovered my phone. Most importantly they spoke to my parents to let them know I was alive.
The fire fighters stayed with me long after the police and ambulance arrived to ensure I was okay and I am eternally grateful for all their help and support that night.
I can never repay them for their services in my hour of need but as a keen runner, I am honoured to be raising money for The Fire Fighters Charity.
They provide specialist lifelong support for members of the UK's fire services community, empowering individuals to achieve mental, physical and social wellbeing throughout their lives.
Please donate if you can - every contribution, big or small, can create a significant impact and help those who willingly help us!
And follow along with my running journey as I physically and mentally prepare for this challenge.
Thank you x
