Story

***WE DID IT!!***

Hackett absolutely smashed the Yorkshire Three Peaks on Friday and managed to complete the challenge in under 12 hours!!

Even myself, despite the fridge, managed to complete with a time of 10:55:16 (8:51:24 moving time) 😊

The guides who took us for the day initially set the expectation that we were unlikely to achieve our goal of completing in 12 hours and should expect to be back in around 15 hours, especially because I was foolish enough to attempt the challenge with a fridge! However, we slowly won them over, and soon they were hurrying us at the end to finish in time—which we managed with plenty of time to spare!

I've got to say a huge thank you to everyone who donated and sent me messages of goodwill and good luck on and around the day itself—these really pushed me on!

If you would still like to donate to our fundraiser for Turning Tides, we are only £250 away from hitting our target of £5,000! 🌊

All money raised will be used to help people facing homelessness today who have nowhere else to turn. It means they can access housing, mental health support, recovery services, counselling, advice, empathy, and practical essentials like food and showers, among so much more. Turning Tides' services don’t just save lives—they change them, providing opportunities that many might never have dreamed possible.

Thanks again everyone!

***UPDATE***

I have now committed optimistically (foolishly!) to carrying a 20kg Guinness fridge with me as I attempt to do the Yorkshire Three Peaks in 12 hours.

This is to signify the burden that comes with being homeless whether it be finding somewhere safe to sleep each night and / or having enough food and water to keep going.

Any further donations / messages of good luck will be very much appreciated as I attempt something I’ve certainly never done before!

Hi Everyone,

Thank you so much for visiting my JustGiving page! On Friday, September 20th, I’ll be embarking on an incredible adventure by taking on the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge for the first time with some of my incredible colleagues.

To prepare, I’ll be spending the next three months training by walking uphill on the treadmill—picture lots of grueling climbs with a Rocky-style playlist to keep me motivated!

I'm taking on this challenge to support Turning Tides, the largest provider of support for homeless men and women in West Sussex. Their work is more important than ever, especially with a 100% increase in homelessness locally. Turning Tides’ community hubs provide vital services like breakfast, showers, laundry, food banks, and various support groups, helping people on their journey out of homelessness.

To keep these hubs running, it costs £1000 a day. My fundraising target is £1500 with the overall fundraising target at £3000, and every penny gets us closer to supporting these essential services. Whether it’s a donation or simply sharing this page, your support means the world to me and makes a huge difference to those in need.

So please, help me hit my target for this amazing cause. Any amount you can give is greatly appreciated, and even spreading the word helps a ton.

Thanks for your generosity and encouragement. Fingers crossed I'm fit enough to complete it, let alone do it in the 12 hours!

Kind Regards,

Johnny

Turning Tides is the largest provider of support for homeless men and women in West Sussex. For over 28 years, the charity has continued to grow and develop a wide range of services to meet the individual needs of those accessing their support.

Recently, Turning Tides have seen a 100% increase in homelessness locally, and their community hubs are seeing about 70 people a day to each of them but shockingly a huge proportion of those people are in work. They are currently running at a deficit for the next 18 months at least so covering the costs of running these community hubs is the goal. They cost £1000 a day to run, which includes the practical things such as breakfast, shower, laundry, storeroom of clean clothes, food bank etc. and the groups such as AA, counselling, art therapy, digital inclusion and staff such as the housing advice and health teams.

Turning Tides believe that everyone has the right to a home and supports people at every stage in their journey out of homelessness. The charity brings together compassionate individuals and organisations who work tirelessly to transform the lives of people in the local community.
