Story
The EMBRACE ERG (an employee resource group at Collins Aerospace for Ethnic Minorities and Allies) are taking on the challenge of the Tough Mudder 2024 to raise money for The Sickle Cell and Thalassemia Project Wolverhampton.
Sickle Cell disease is the name for a group of inherited health conditions which affect the red blood cells, people with sickle cell disease usually produce unusually shaped red blood cells than can cause problems because they do not live as long as healthy blood cells and can block blood vessels.
Thalassemia is the name for a group of inherited conditions that affect a substance in the blood called haemoglobin. People with Thalassemia produce either no or too little haemoglobin which is used by red blood cells to carry oxygen around the body.
The Sickle Cell and Thalassemia Support Project Wolverhampton has had a unique role working primarily with they individuals affected by Sickle Cell or Thalassemia, encompassing diverse populations of African Caribbean, African, Indian, and Mediterranean origins. As the sole charity delivering screening, counselling, and services in collaboration with the NHSE, they operate in Wolverhampton, Walsall, Dudley and surrounding areas. Their support also extends to health promotion events in the general community, health centers, schools, colleges, and religious venues.
The EMBRACE ERG are proud to support the SCTSP in Wolverhampton, raising funds and awareness for these important causes. By participating in this challenge, we aim to contribute to the ongoing research, treatment and support for individuals and families affected by Sickle Cell and Thalassemia.
