Story
This year I am going even bigger. I am completing the London Half Marathon on April 6th. Then, joined by Jon Kerr, I will complete the full London Marathon on April 27th.
In January 2018 I became critically ill with Meningococcal Sepsis resulting in total organ failure and being placed into a coma. After a long time in intensive care the amputation of both my legs below knee and 9 of my fingers became imperative to save my life.
I have worked hard to return to work as a teacher and regain a good level of fitness. As a part of this endeavour I am now directing my focus to raising awareness and funds for UK Sepsis Trust.
I’ve always loved sport, obviously I can’t do all sports now, but this is something that I can do to show that actually anything is possible.
For those battling Sepsis at the moment I want to prove that you can get through Sepsis. You can come out the other side and still achieve things you might have thought impossible.
As hard as this challenge is fundraising is at the heart of the fight against sepsis.
It raises awareness, and sparks the question: “What is sepsis? In this way, fundraising can help prevent thousands of deaths & unnecessary suffering through knowledge & awareness of the symptoms.
It also funds our vital support work, Public Awareness, Educating Health Professionals & helping people adjust to life after sepsis through accessing our Support Group network. We also lobby government to support our cause and makes vital changes in areas such as the NHS.
