Story

I walk. For days at a time. Sometimes with company and sometimes alone. I first did it when a friend and I raised money for cancer research on the West Highland Way. My mum, has lost her entire immediate family to cancer and is the only one of them to see a 60th birthday. There's been other close relatives and friends too. But this isn't about them, it's about the people it will still come for. My family and so many others are at high risk.

I walk in my mother's family (Buchanan) tartan. My first two great walks passed through tracts of their old lands. But I'm not stopping there. I'm going to walk the entire length of Scotland. I'm going to raise money to try and keep as many people alive while I do. My kids sometimes walk with me. My dad might the next time. This is a beautiful land and out in the wild parts its easy to feel close to those that have passed and those that remain. It's easy to remember you never quite know when a journey comes to an end so you should enjoy it as you go.

I'm not hard to spot coming down the road in my bright kilt and long white hair. Walk with me a bit if you see me.

Roll of honour for those that have walked with me on the various charity walks and contributed to the charity funds:

Moffat to New Lanark - Mark Eddie (but thanks also to my dad for emergence support vehicle given aftermath of biggest storm in 100 years)

Annandale Way - My Dad (Tommy), Mark Eddie

Great Glen Way - My Dad (Tommy), Mark Eddie

West Highland Way - Brian Rafferty, Michael Strain

Also, not really the Length of Scotland walk, but honourable mentions nontheless:

Rob Roy Way: My son (Eoin), Peter Sugden, Neil Levitt

Fife Coastal Path: Did that one alone

Still to do to complete:

John O-Groats Trail (Inverness to John O-Groats)

Clyde Walkway (New Lanark to Glasgow centre)

Glasgow centre to Milngavie
