Story
As a team we will be walking 18 miles with ‘The Great Hospital Hike’ in memory of my colleague Nic’s nephew, who tragically passed away on 17th April, ages just 12 days old.
Albert was diagnosed with Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH), a rare condition affecting babies before birth, during a routine pregnancy scan at 20 weeks. Only a very small proportion of hospitals in the UK have access to all specialities and equipment to care for babies with CDP. King’s College Hospital is one of those hospitals.
Albert underwent incredibly precise in-utero surgery, followed by further procedures within a couple of days of his birth. Albert and the whole of Nic’s family received incredible support from everyone at King’s both before and during his brief life.
The Hospital count on the support of the King’s College Hospital charity to continue to support families in the way that they do. Funds raised will help to enhance patient experiences, provide equipment, transform facilities, conduct research and support staff. All of these are vital to ensure that King’s can continue to support families like Nic & Albert’s.
