Big Battlefield Bike Ride 2024 – Normandy
As my partner in pedal-powered crime, Redders from Craft Union, and I gear up for the Big Battlefield Bike Ride 2024 through Normandy in support of Help For Heroes there's a comedic twist to our tale—we didn't even have bikes! But fear not, for we quickly remedied this by joining the ranks of proud bike owners, much to the amusement of our friends who never thought they'd see the day when we'd voluntarily trade our pints for pedals.
Now, as we prepare to honor the heroes of D-Day with our tire tracks, there's a hilarious inconsistency that's caught our attention—depending on which brochure you consult, the advertised distance of the ride ranges from a leisurely 250 miles to a lung-busting 350 miles. It's as if the route itself is playing a prank on us, promising a scenic pedal through Normandy one moment and then suggesting an epic trek equivalent to biking from Sunderland to London the next!
And yet, despite the uncertainty of the mileage, one thing is for sure: this Big Battlefield Bike Ride will be a journey to remember, commemorating the 80th Anniversary of the D-Day landings and paying homage to the sacrifices made by brave servicemen and women. From the historic beaches of Omaha, Gold, and Juno to the quaint streets of Bayeux, Lisieux, and Bernay, our adventure will culminate in the grandeur of Paris, where we'll celebrate our triumph over 400 kilometers of saddle soreness with a well-deserved Kronenbourg beneath the shadow of the Eiffel Tower.
Any donation however small, or large would be gratefully accepted and you will at least receive some funny pics to document our lack of progress
