Story
In Spring 2024, 12 members of Team Uprising will be trekking into Everest Base Camp and 2 will go on to attempt to summit Everest by the end of May. We fly from Kathmandu to Lukla on the 3rd / 4th April then trek the 70km to Everest Base Camp before climbing nearby Kala Patthar at 5,500m altitude. 2 members of the team then stay at base camp and start their further acclimatisation for the summit attempt in May.
For all of us this will be a significant physical and mental challenge. Team Uprising is made up of survivors of childhood abuse by schoolteachers; the team also includes some close friends and family joining us in support. This expedition is a way of moving on and finding some positives from the past as well as raising as much money as possible to help the NSPCC continue their excellent work. The NSPCC is the leading children's charity fighting to end child abuse in the UK and Channel Islands. We help children who have been abused to rebuild their lives, protect those at risk, and find the best ways of preventing abuse from ever happening.
Every child deserves the best possible chance to rebuild their life after abuse
That’s why we’re here. That's what drives all our work. And that’s why – as long as there’s abuse – we will fight for every childhood.
