Story
Hello Everyone.
Nearly three years ago my Dad was diagnosed with Dementia on Alzheimer’s. At first the change was very gradual, he'd forget where his glasses were or he'd misplace his wallet. Three years on, his whole world has changed.
His short term memory in non-existent, his awareness of time has now completely disappeared, he no longer reads or writes, he's confused all the time and his emotions are all over the place.
Imagine having to give up your driving license
Imagine waking up and not knowing who’s lying next to you, where you are and being completely confused
Imagine not being able to control your emotions
Imagine forgetting what you did ten minutes ago
Imagine forgetting how to count
Imagine waking up so confused and scared you spend the first twenty minutes of your day sobbing uncontrollably
Imagine no longer being able to read book because you can’t remember the page you’ve just read
Imagine forgetting how to sign your own name
Imagine getting lost in a village you’ve lived in for nearly 50 years
Imagine forgetting your loved ones names
IMAGINE ALL THIS……and this is now pretty much my dads life, and watching it happen before my eyes is absolutely heart-breaking.
So… while he still remembers who I am and that I love him, I'm taking on the challenge of walking the West highland way in June.
98 Miles through the Scottish highlands. It seemed apt as my Dads a proud Scotsman.
Hopefully I'll raise some money for this fantastic Norfolk and Norwich dementia Charity and this can be used to help others who have family members who are suffering like my Dad.
So if you’d be kind enough to donate anything you can I’d hugely appreciate it. 😊😊😊

Imagine waking up in a hospital bed and not knowing where you are, who anyone around you is, or why you are there.
For someone with dementia, that feeling is very real; as you can imagine, hospital can be a frightening and unfamiliar place, especially if you have no recollection of becoming ill or injured in the first place.
We want to make sure patients with dementia and their families or carers can experience the very best care, in the very best environment. Your help means we can purchase craft materials, dementia packs and items such as a reminiscence machine or create a more soothing environment for patients.
We hope to raise enough to create a special garden within the N&N Hospital grounds, providing a peaceful outdoor space that can be safely and securely accessed by patients and their families.
