Ultra-Trail Snowdonia 100k, 14th London Marathon, many more marathons & other crazy!

Challenging myself to yet more crazy because - Together we are beating cancer
Every year, I challenge myself to do more, to go further, higher, faster. By doing so, I hope to inspire others to support us in our mission. So thank you for visiting, for showing your support and for encouraging me to keep doing more. Together, we are beating cancer.
2024 running order 🏃🏻♂️ looks like this (so far!)
✅ 27 Jan: Cancer Research UK London Marathon training day. Once again, kicking off the year presenting and supporting at this annual training day for our first-time marathoners!
✅ 25 Feb: Cancer Research UK London Winter Run. You guessed it, the 'mad scientist' is back! I've recruited some work colleagues to take part and promised to donate to any of them who #BeatTheScientist 🧪
✅ 17 Mar: Rome Marathon. My first marathon in Italy, hoping to survive several miles of cobblestones 😬 This is no walk in a park, with dreaded stones for a mile at the start, several miles around the Vatican and at the finish.
Easter quadruple: 24 Mar Hillingdon 20 mile ✅ 29 Mar Maidenhead Easter 10 mile ✅ 7 Apr White Horse Half Marathon ✅ 14 Apr Reading Half Marathon ✅
✅ 21 Apr: London Marathon. Where is all began when my Dad ran the very first one in 1981. Always my inspiration, this year I'll be running my 14th edition of this landmark event. Who knows what I'll be wearing 👀
✅ 13-14 May: Ultra-Trail Snowdonia (UTS) 100. After completing the 50k version in 2022, last year's attempt at the 100k ended with my first ever DNF (did not finish). I'm going back in an attempt to slay this brutal beauty 🌄
✅ 1 Jun: Stockholm Marathon. My debut in a Scandinavian marathon, hopefully not my last. Criss-crossing the bridges to the many islands which make up Stockholm, the new course for 2024 should be good!
✅ 8 Jun: Man vs. Horse race. Back by popular demand, attempting to better last year's effort where 6 of the 64 horse and riders got the better of me. This time with a crew from Dulwich Runners, this will be epic! 🏃♂️vs🐴
July - hopefully just resting..... but then you know how it goes! 🤷🏻♂️
✅ 24 Aug: Reykjavik Marathon. Praying that the recent earthquakes and volcanic eruptions are short-lived and don’t torpedo my first visit to Iceland. Don't fancy trying to outrun lava 🌋
✅ 1 Sep: The Big Half. Sandwiched between Reykjavik and Tallinn Marathons, hopefully a good sharpener ahead on Berlin Marathon ‘A’ race later in September!
✅ 08 Sep: Tallinn Marathon. Back to the Baltics after my first outing in Kaunas a few years ago. This time Tallinn and the 35th anniversary of Estonia’s premier race, around a UNESCO World Heritage-listed Old Town.
✅ 29 Sep: Berlin Marathon. My 3rd time in Berlin for the 50th anniversary of this World Marathon Major and my marathon ‘A-race’. I’ll attempt a PB, sub 2hrs:50min, to better my outing in Amsterdam last year.
✅ 20 Oct: Ljubljana Marathon. Running in Slovenia will be another first for me. I struggled to pinpoint Ljubljana until I’d consulted Google. The route loops round the city passing highlights including Tivoli Park and claims to be flat! Let’s see!
✅ 2 Nov: Porto Marathon. Having realised I had a spare weekend and I’d never been to Porto, it just seemed like the sensible thing to do 🙈 Only time will tell if that was a smart move.
❌ 24 Nov: San Sebastián Marathon. Such was the Basque buzz last year I decided to go back and attempt to break our long-standing M55 club record. This is held by our long-time coach, Steve Smythe, who set a 40-year span of sub 3-hour marathons. No mean feat! [CANCELLED DUE TO STORM BERT]
✅ 15 Dec: Malaga Marathon. Q: When is another marathon one too many? A: Never! Just time to squeeze one more into 2024, my 11th marathon or ultra-marathon of the year. #MoreResearchLessCancer.
Stay tuned for updates...
