This summer we aim to tackle poverty in Wigan. We are calling on businesses to take part in our 555 challenge. £1 donation for 5 days will pay for 5 meals for a child in Wigan, or towards an emergency food parcel for a family.

Story

The UK is facing a perfect storm of increasing prices, soaring bills and tax rises. With inflation reaching its highest rate for 30 years, over the coming months more families will be pushed into poverty.

This summer we aim to tackle poverty in Wigan. Department of Education data shows that by the end of the 2020-21 school year, 60% of Wigans children were eligible for free school meals up from 43% at the same point in 2016-17. School holidays are always a challenging time for families, but now as the cost of living crisis materialises, more and more people will be choosing heating over eating this summer.
