Story
Hi everybody, I just wanted to talk you through something that I’m planning to do shortly.
As some of you may know, my Wife Danielle was diagnosed with cancer in 2022. After going to the doctors with a lump on her leg, she was sent to Kettering in the April of that year to have it removed. A few months later in August it was confirmed that it was a blue cell tumour, which is a type of sarcoma cancer. The lump was sent to labs in Edinburgh, Leicester, London and Paris but they couldn’t tell Danielle the exact type of cancer she had as they’d never seen it before.
In October 2022 she was sent to Nottingham hospital where they performed another operation on her leg, this time going further down to ensure there were no more cancerous cells there.
Danielle has had numerous tests and painful operations over the past two years; the worse of which being a bone marrow biopsy. This has made me so proud of the strength she’s shown, especially as I used to have to go to the dentist with her as she’d faint at the sight of a needle!
Visits to the hospital for check ups became regular occurrences every 3 months for the first two years, these appointments will continue until Danielle reaches the 10 year anniversary and can then officially say she’s cancer free.
The staff at Leicester hospital have been amazing, from the surgeon that she checks in with each time, to the Macmillan nurse who’s there to speak to whenever Danielle needs it.
I have decided to walk to raise money for a very special charity. This charity is run completely by volunteers and aims to put smiles on the faces of people who have been affected by cancer. This can be through various ways such as weekends away, gifts cards or even a holiday in their charity owned caravan. They’ve certainly cheered Danielle up when she’s been having a low day.
My walk will take place on Friday 28th June and I’ll be walking from Prospect House in Kettering, where Danielle had her first operation and I’ll finish at Leicester Royal Infirmary which is where most of Danielle’s appointments are.
You can read more about my chosen charity below.
All donations welcome, no matter how small. 100% of the money goes directly to the charity and in a time where most people know somebody affected by cancer, your donations can make a big difference to someone.
