Story
we did it!!!
This year I have decided to challenge myself in order to raise money to support people experiencing body image issues and eating disorders.
Been There is a remote charity providing 1:1 peer Mentoring support from a lived experience Mentor. Mentors walk alongside their Mentee with a deep empathy and understanding of the challenges that they are facing because they have Been There too.
4/5 people in the UK claim their body image has negatively affected their mental health.1/8 have experienced suicidal thoughts because of poor body image. Anorexia nervosa is the deadliest mental illness in the UK and most of its victims claim their own lives.
It costs £260 to support one Mentor through a complete Mentoring programme.
By sponsoring my challenge, you can help me to improve the health and happiness of so many more Mentees who urgently need compassionate support.
I will be challenging myself to walk 10 miles on 10th August, hoping to raise enough to fund the training of one mentor for Been There. I had an accident three years ago and cracked my pelvis in 3 places, so this will be the furthest I have walked since that time.
This is an amazing small charity that provides mentoring support to people who have body image issues and/or an eating disorder. 30 years ago when I was in the midst of an eating disorder I would have loved to have someone to talk to about what I was going through.
I volunteer for Been There to be the support for someone that I would have loved to have.
