Story

On 4th and 5th May 2024 I will taking on the Isle of Wight Ultra Challenge; this is a circumnavigation of the Isle of Wight: 106 km with a 1800m+ climb. I have taken on a number of Ultra Challenges before and I still bare some of the scars as a reminder of how hard these things are on the body! Severe blisters, loss of toe-nails and ongoing aches are insignificant when it comes to being able to raise awareness for charities and, hopefully, raise a great amount of money to a worthy cause. My aim is to complete in under 20 hours – we will see whether I can achieve!

My worthy cause is St Lukes Hospice, Plymouth. Why this Charity you may ask?

I will be running to raise money in memory of my sister in law Kate Peeters, who was very sadly taken from us, far too early at the end of 2023.

Kate was wonderfully cared for in her final days by the excellent staff at St Lukes Hospice, Plymouth and in order to express my personal thanks, and the thanks of my whole family, I would like to raise as much money as I can for them. Both my efforts, and efforts of the colleagues who have pledged to run with me for their own charities, will hopefully help to ensure that other people benefit from our challenge and the charities continue to be able to provide excellent care and facility for those who most need them.

I know that some of you did not get the privilege of meeting Kate, and those who knew her will understand that she was one of the most caring and gentle people you would ever have known. Those who were blessed with having Kate in their lives will vouch for the person she was and the joy and fun she projected to everyone around her.

My challenge goal is to raise as much money as possible and I would be so grateful if you could pass on my request to your circle of friends and colleagues in order to help to do this. Unfortunately I cannot offer you very much in return other than promising you I will be putting myself through the mill and enduring cramps, blisters and pain!

Anything you can give would be very gratefully received. If you are able to donate individually then thank you, if you are able to donate via a business or company I will proudly display your company information on my clothing during the event.

Once again, thank you from myself and my family for anything you can give in memory of Kate in order to offer the same incredible care that she was given in her final days.
