Story
This July I will be organising a fun-run/fundraiser event to help raise money and awareness for Blue Dragon.
Last summer, I had the opportunity to meet Vi, the CEO of Blue Dragon Foundation. He recalled his journey from being a 14-year-old boy shining shoes in Hanoi in the early 2000s. He faced numerous hardships, including being beaten, robbed, having nowhere to sleep, wandering hopelessly in the streets of the capital until he met Michael, the founder of the Blue Dragon. Michael provided him with English lessons and vocational training. After many years of hard-work, he became a manager at an international hotel in Hanoi. One day, he decided to leave his promising career to return to Blue Dragon, becoming a leader of the organization that had rescued and supported him in his youth.
Driven by concerns about the issues facing children in Vietnam, I started to learn and volunteer for Blue Dragon, an organization that helps many street children and victims of human trafficking each year.
After visiting the fund's headquarters in Hanoi, I introduced some of my school friends in England to Mr. Vi and Michael. We realized we needed to contribute to Blue Dragon's efforts to end these issues for children in Vietnam.
Over the past year, we have formed a group of students from more than 10 schools in England with the goal of establishing a source of fundraising for the organisation. This July, we will organize a run at Ludgrove School with about 100 students participating. Each student in the run will be responsible for raising funds to support Blue Dragon.
I hope this will become an annual event.
Our group's goal is to raise £100,000, which will be used in collaboration with Blue Dragon to implement activities such as building boarding houses and renovating schools in Northwest Vietnam.
This endeavour has proven to be a lot more of a challenge than I anticipated. The group of people I have met and made friends with over the past have contributed greatly to the goal of the event and the cause of the foundation.
Thank you to all those who have taken part and donated.
