Story
On the 15 January 2023 the community of Crossgar was shocked and saddened by the sudden death of local business man Michael Crowe. At just 59 years of age, he died suddenly from an Acute Coronary Thrombosis whilst out mountain biking with friends in Castlewellan Forest Park.
Michael was a keen cyclist and having been instrumental in the formation of Crossgar Cycling Club , spent many hours on both road and mountain bike with fellow members. He was very active and had no previous health issues. There was no prior warning of what was to come. He would have celebrated his 60th birthday on the 29 August this year.
In his memory and to mark his birthday, Crossgar Cycling Club, his friends and family have organised a weekend of events to raise money for the Chest Heart and Stroke charity. The first event will take place in the courtyard of The Crowes Nest Crossgar on Saturday 26 August. There will be static biles from 10am to 5pm with music and refreshments. We would love to invite as many as possible to take part, call in for coffee and a bun, or sit down and relax with a foot massage. Donations welcome on the day or at any time in the shop.
On Sunday 27 August, Crossgar Cycling Club have organised a 60K and 60 mile cycling event. Cyclists will leave the War Memorial Hall Crossgar at 8.30 taking in one of Mike's favourite hills...Dree Hill. Refreshments will be available at Slieve Croob and on return to the War Memorial Hall in Crossgar. To register or donate scan the QR code and download the app. There will be live music from 2.30pm in the Corner Inn, Crossgar with a BBQ and raffle from 6pm.
Lets all make Mikes 60th one to remember and Get on yer bike for Mike!
