Help Us Fight Glioblastoma – Join the Bluebell Walk 27th April 2025

A Life-Changing Diagnosis

Eighteen months ago, my world changed forever. In May 2023, I had a seizure, and soon after, I received the devastating news that it was caused by a glioblastoma (GBM) – an aggressive grade 4 brain cancer with a limited life expectancy.

As my dear friend Laura describes the GBM "as the Great White Shark of cancer".

I've been fortunate to outlive the average prognosis of 12–18 months. But why do some people survive only six months while others reach two years? No one knows. We don’t know what causes GBM, and most heartbreakingly, we don’t yet know how to cure it.

This Needs to Change – Now

Research suggests that breakthroughs could take a decade. That’s not fast enough. We don’t want just a few extra months—we want a cure. Other cancers, like melanoma, leukaemia and breast cancer, have seen incredible advancements. It’s time for the brain tumour community to receive the same attention and funding.

Your Support Can Make a Difference

We need more resources, more researchers, more investment, and—most importantly—more funding. Progress is happening, but we need to keep pushing. I was encouraged by the strong support from MPs at a recent All-Party Parliamentary Group meeting, where they urged the NIHR to release more funding. Leaders across all parties are backing this cause, and I’m incredibly grateful that my brother, Charlie Maynard, is among them.

But we need you too. Raising awareness in our workplaces, communities, and families is just as crucial as government support. GBMs are random—anyone can be affected. But everyone can help by taking action.

Why This Matters

GBMs receive only a fraction of the funding dedicated to other cancers, yet they remain the biggest cancer killer of children and adults under 40. It’s unacceptable that this disease is still left on the shelf. We must change that by raising awareness, investing in research, and giving those diagnosed a fighting chance.

Walk With Us – The Bluebell Walk 2025

Your support over the past year has meant the world to me. Now, I’m asking for your help once more.

This year, we're running the Twilight Walk again, but with a fresh new look! Bluebells bring me real joy, and I want to share that with you. So, we’ve decided to organise our very own Bluebell Walk in Oxfordshire on 27th April 2025.

The details are coming soon, but here’s how you can help:

• Donate – Every contribution goes toward vital research.

• Join the Walk – Lace up your shoes and walk with us.

• Fundraise – Help us raise the money needed to make real change.

Be Part of the Change

We are fundraising under The Maynards Supporter Group, set up specifically to fund research into high-grade brain tumours through The Brain Tumour Charity.
