Story

This is the third year we have taken part in the Pilgrims Hospice Cycle Challenge in order to raise money to cover at least what would have been spent caring for my mum, Rosy Green, in the last few months of her life.

We hope this year we can finally reach that target, and exceed it so that we can ensure other people get the same support and care at a time when you need it most.

Rosy was in Ashford hospice in October 2021 and the positive energy, enthusiasm, genuine kindness and compassion were huge factors in making her well enough to go home. Rosy passed away in Canterbury hospice on Thursday 27 January 2022.

Throughout her life, Rosy had the skill to recognise and reach out to those who needed it; her lifetime of voluntary work depicts the person she was. She cared dearly about the refugee cause and gathered clothing donations, but she truly believed that charity starts on your own doorstep. If we contribute to our local community where we can, we all thrive and build a strong, caring and established community.

The 2024 team is: Mike Green, Georgie Green , Dave Millyard , Kip Denne (family friend), Lauren & Buster Soutan, Alex Darroch.

At its heart, Pilgrims is dedicated to providing skilled and compassionate care, free of charge, to people living with an incurable illness in east Kent. Their vision is that people with a life-limiting illness are supported and empowered to live well in mind & body, making the most of the time they have. They care for over 2,500 patients a year, at their 3 inpatient units in Canterbury, Thanet & Ashford, their therapy centres, or in patients’ own homes. With 80% of their funding being voluntary contributions, your support cannot be overstated.
