Story
On the 17th November 2022, our Reggie was born. Also on this day we got the confirmation that Reggie has Severe Haemophilia B. This is a blood condition which is almost always inherited. Reggie’s grandad has this also!
Haemophilia is a rare condition that affects the blood's ability to clot. Normally, when you cut yourself, substances in your blood known as clotting factors mix with blood cells called platelets to make your blood sticky and form a clot. This makes the bleeding stop eventually.
People with haemophilia do not have as many clotting factors as they should have in their blood. This means they bleed for longer than usual. In Reggie’s case his body doesn’t create factor 9 at all, and his clotting level is below 0%.
Just before Reggies 1st Birthday he had an operation to have a portacath fitted. This means that he can now have a weekly injection into his portacath which is done by me to give him the factor 9 his body doesn’t create.
Reggie’s treatment is for life, and it gives him the freedom to be the adventurous little boy he is.
I’m running this race to help spread awareness of Haemophilia. The more money raised for this charity means they have more resources to support families like ourselves.
I have 4 weeks to train for this race! Wish me luck!
