Our little boy George was a perfectly happy, healthy 12-year-old with a bright future ahead of him when he suddenly got terrible headaches out of the blue in April 2021.
A few weeks later George was diagnosed with a Glioblastoma Brain Tumour, a tumour for which there is a 0% chance of survival. George was gone just 11.5 months later on 12th April 2022 aged just 13.
There is a huge void in our lives without George, the word heartbroken doesn't even begin to describe how we feel without him. We feel we have a responsibility to make a difference for children diagnosed with a brain tumour today, and we do this with the other Angel Mums who have all lost a child to a brain tumour too.
Brain tumours kill more of our children than any other cancer - a fact you are blissfully unaware of until it's your child. During George's journey, he received care which was unacceptable... something that has traumatised us - and we want to help fundraise for the Tessa Jowell Foundation, which is a foundation that exists to fund vital work to improve brain cancer research, treatment and care across the UK.
Working in partnership with the Tessa Jowell Brain Cancer Mission, they identify gaps in standards and help fund initiatives to elevate those standards. We believe every child should receive the same care no matter where they live in the UK.
For this reason, we are fundraising for a brand new Equity and Innovation Fund to support neuro hospitals in the UK to provide a more positive journey for children diagnosed with a brain tumour today.
This fund will include the Tessa Jowell Nurses Programme, and pay for innovations and training to upskill the workforce in neuro hospitals in the UK.
