Story

Hi, My name is George!

I was born in November 2023 via emergency c-section due to mummy suffering a double rupture of her uterus. This caused me to be starved of blood and oxygen to my brain.

I was born pale and floppy, so I required resuscitation and intubation to ensure that I survived. My first ever MRI scan was taken when I was 6 days old. It showed that I had suffered widespread HIE, which is likely to lead to severe motor and cognitive impairments. It is also the reason that I am fed through an NG tube.

I was transferred to New Cross Hospital in Wolverhampton to undergo 72 hours of cooling therapy, which is the only treatment available for a HIE injury. I was discharged home from the NICU at 24 days old and will require multidisciplinary support throughout my life.

Today I have been issued with my race bib to complete a virtual walk from Lands End to John O'Groats.

Now obviously I can't walk yet, I'm just a baby, but Mummy and Daddy can and I know that my dogs, Marley and Bella love a walk! With their help, we will walk.... well, I will be pushed the 1,084 mile walking route from Lands End to John O'Groats.

I would like to reach an achievable target of £1084, raising £1 for each mile that I complete, but how amazing would it be if I could raise much more per mile because it costs over £1300 for me to stay at Hope House for 1 night respite!

Ever the adventurer, I have decided that I would like to complete the challenge before my 1st birthday, meaning that we have just 145 days to complete this challenge. This means that we need to achieve an average of almost 7.5 miles per day to complete the challenge. (Mummy and Daddy may have to add some cycling miles to help keep me on track)

To keep my adventure exciting and interesting, I am always on the look out for memorable things to do along the way. If you have any ideas or could help, please feel free to contact Mummy and Daddy.

WHY? you may ask. Well, firstly, I like to provide Mummy and Daddy with a challenge and believe me I do, every day, but now I want to push them harder and help make family memories.

Secondly and most importantly I want to help give back to the charity that helps me and many others like me, Hope House and Ty Gobaith childrens hospices.

https://www.hopehouse.org.uk/

Hope House and Ty Gobaith hospices support seriously ill children in Shropshire, Cheshire, Powys and North Wales.

IT COSTS OVER £7.5 MILLION PER YEAR FOR HOPEHOUSE AND TY GOBAITH TO PROVIDE THEIR SERVICES.

Since my referral to Hope House childrens hospice at 2 months old, My family and I have received essential care and support that helps to ensure that I lead a comfortable and happy life. We are eternally grateful for all that they do for us and if we can give even just a little back to ensure that they can continue to support families like ours, it would mean the world to me.

Please dig deep if you can but if you are unable to support financially, sharing this page and raising awareness of the incredible work that they do will also go a long way to helping.
