Story
Hello
My name is George. Along with my son, who is also named George, we are fundraising for Teenage Cancer Trust in honour of his late uncle, Adrian. Adrian sadly lost his battle with osteosarcoma on May 30, 2023, at the tender age of 19.
My son has had a tough few years. It started when my father had a fall and became seriously ill. He eventually went on palliative care and passed away in April 2022. Not long after that, Adrian was diagnosed with stage 4 osteosarcoma (bone cancer). The cancer had spread from his left shin bone to his lungs. His oncologist was honest with us and said that the cancer was incurable. However, Adrian fought bravely and never lost faith. He was an inspiration to us all and words can't describe how proud we all are of how he handled the situation.
My son, George, was only 8 years old when Adrian was diagnosed. We tried to shield him from the worst of it, but he knew that there was a possibility that Adrian could die. He also knew something was up as his mother was often at the hospital with Adrian, which meant that he didn't see her as much as he would have liked. During this time, George found solace in football. He started playing the sport and going to matches at both South Shields and Sunderland
It was George's love of football that inspired us to come up with the idea of 19 laps of the pitch, 1 for every year of Adrian's life.
We'll start at Sunderland West End, where George plays for the U10 West End Blacks. Then, we'll move on to the 1st Cloud Arena, the home of South Shields FC. Our ultimate goal is to complete the laps at the Stadium of Light. We have so many great memories at the stadium with the season we had last year, it exceeded everyone's expectations and with what was going on back at home, it was a welcome distraction for a couple of hours.
We know that this is a ambitious goal, but we're hoping that the good nature of Sunderland fans will help us to achieve it. We're also hoping to raise some money for the Teenage Cancer Trust in the process, and make memories that money can't buy and show George that life is not always bad.
We would be grateful for any support you can give us. Please follow our progress on social media and share our story. Together, we can make a difference.
Thank you for your time
