Gems Shining Lights

I’ve signed up for the first quarter (25 km) of the Jurassic Coast challenge to walk in memory of our beautiful daughter Gemma, who sadly passed away in July 2023, and raise money for Young Lives Vs Cancer.

Her nearly 3 year journey took her through weeks of chemo, a massive hip operation and recovery period, intensive radiotherapy, a drugs trial and more Chemo.

Gemma worked hard at whatever she did, and following her diagnosis, Gemma remained so positive and brave, and always saw the best in life.

Gemma truly lived life to the full when she was able to and loved the outdoors and being by the sea.

I decided to take on this challenge as we followed and supported Stuart, Gemma’s Dad last year when he took on the longer continuous 100 km challenge, so this seemed like the perfect choice and we currently have a team of 20 which is amazing. We have named the team Gems Shining Lights🌟I will be wearing Gemma‘s walking boots which feels incredible. Her light will definitely be shining bright.

We are so thankful to Gemma, for being such an inspiration to us all and for the many hearts and lives she touched with her warm positive approach to life and her beautiful smile.

We are supporting Young Lives Vs Cancer as this is one of Gemma‘s chosen charities who have been supportive in so many ways. Gemma stayed in one of their home from homes before her hip operation. They assisted Gemma with finances and grants enabling her to have trips away. Julia their social worker was always available to chat to Gemma when needed and has also been very helpful with bereavement.

We will always be so grateful to Young Lives Vs Cancer for making life a little easier.
