Story
In November I will embark on a challenging 5 day trek in the Indian Himalayas to raise money for the incredible charity, CoppaFeel!
Alongside celebrities Giovanna Fletcher, Emma Willis, Sara Davies, Erin Kennedy and my own team captain Angela Scanlon, I will be trekking with 119 strangers (hopefully soon to be friends!) through remote areas for up to 9 hours per day, climbing rugged mountain paths with steep inclines, to altitudes of up to 3,000m. We will be taking in breathtaking views of snow-capped mountains, hiking through ancient, unspoilt forests and experiencing true Tibetan life - visiting rural villages and monasteries. During our trek we will be camping in sub-zero conditions, with very basic facilities.
CoppaFeel! is the first UK breast cancer charity to create awareness specifically amongst young people, with the aim of instilling habits that could one day save a life. Anyone can be affected by breast cancer yet a staggering 45% of women don't routinely check their chests and one quarter of young people don’t even realise they are at risk. With routine mammograms not starting until the age of 50 it is so important to ensure that young women are encouraged to routinely check themselves, educated on the signs and symptoms of breast cancer and feel empowered to have any concerns investigated.
CoppaFeel!’s mission is incredibly important because early diagnosis leads to more effective treatments and higher survival rates. Having being diagnosed with aggressive triple negative breast cancer in June 2022 - early diagnosis quite literally saved my life. Following seven gruelling months of treatment; a lumpectomy, full lymph node clearance (as the cancer had spread), 6 rounds of chemotherapy and 15 sessions of radiotherapy, I finished my active treatment in February 2023 and thankfully I am now doing really well. But not everyone is so lucky and that is why I feel so passionate about CoppaFeel!'s mission.
I decided to apply for this trek because having cancer has encouraged me to grab every opportunity in life and shown me that I have the positive mindset, resilience and determination to take on this challenge. I am so excited and proud to have been selected for this extraordinary, life-changing experience and to support this amazing charity, which is close to my heart.
Thank you so much for your donations and support, it is really appreciated. To find out more about Coppafeel! visit www.coppafeel.org
