Race for life.. 9 years on…
I myself had the dreaded news…. you have a mass, you need an urgent procedure, and this was all following a routine scan. I had an excellent radiographer who identified a mass on my kidney (which incidentally wasn’t what my planned scan was for).
From then on I was looked after incredibly well, yet speedily, cancelling our holiday and life was put on hold.
On the 3rd September 2015, I had an urgent partial nephrectomy and then awaited the results. The wait seemed like a lifetime… dreading and fearing the worst.
It was confirmed…. I had kidney cancer and with this news came the amazing news that my highly skilled surgeon had managed to remove all of it and had achieved good ‘clearance’.
I picked myself up and dusted myself down and grabbed life with both hands! That stoic trait we just have, right!
The surveillance from our wonderful NHS has been excellent and a few weeks ago I received the wonderful news that once again in 2024 my MRI scan was all clear and my chest X ray too.
I never, ever take it for granted and every time my scan comes around it’s a stark reminder of just how delicately balanced life really is.
So this year I’m pushing all boundaries and I’m signed up to complete the 10k Race for Life.
If you would like to sponsor me I’d be forever grateful as this helps to continue the amazing work that cancer research teams and all associated professionals carry out. It also raises awareness. I beg you please, If you ever feel “it’s just a” … or something looks or feels different please, please get it checked out.
Finally thank you to all my incredible, loving, supportive family and friends for supporting me then and still now and of course thank you so much for sponsoring me as every penny really does count.
Love Gayle xx 🩷💕🩷
