Walking 150 thousand steps each week, one step for each one of the 150 thousand people with Multiple Sclerosis in the UK
In memory of Moira Rushworth
Forty years ago in 1984 my life changed forever – I met Moira – and the next eighteen years we filled with magical memories; within two years we were engaged and the following year we got married. Life was joyful, we loved walking together in the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales, touring parts of ‘Hidden France’, holidaying in the USA and the Caribbean. Later two beautiful daughters magnified the magic.
Then in 2002 Moira received the diagnosis of Progressive Multiple Sclerosis and a quite different eighteen years followed. We still made many happy memories and Moira battled the disease bravely, smiling and bringing laughter along the way. There were no treatments for her form of MS and in 2020, Moira sadly lost her brave fight with MS.
I am determined to do what I can to help raise awareness for, and funds to help research discover the treatments those with MS need and deserve, and ultimately find the cure that will Stop MS!
Therefore, this year I am doing something to recognise the more than 150,000 in the UK with MS – I will walk a step each week for each of them. An average of nearly 21,500 steps or 9.5 miles per day, every day of 2024. I feel this is a fitting way to mark the 40th Anniversary of the year when my beautiful Moira came into my life.
