Story
In truth I don’t think either of us were fully paying attention when Claire from the Peter Pan Centre asked us to jump out of a plane at 12,000 feet. ‘I'll buy you a pint afterwards and you get a Friday off work’ was the bit I heard and I replied with a big thumbs up.
But now the jump is looming on the horizon and the reality is setting in. It looks great on Point Break but I’m no Keanu Reeves and Gaz is no… well actually he does look a bit like Patrick Swayze but neither of us have ever done anything like this before and I imagine we’ll have knees like jelly when the time comes to leap out into the clouds.
So why do it? Well that bit’s easy. We’re doing it because we both genuinely want to support the amazing services and provided by the Peter Pan Centre for children with special educational needs and disabilities.
They get no government funding at all, and rely almost entirely on community support and fundraising events such as this.
Founded in 1969, as a playgroup for children with disabilities, and unique across Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire and Cheshire, no other charity does what the Peter Pan Centre does in the region. Their specialist learning through play sessions help 0-5 year-olds with special needs to learn new skills, gain confidence and make friends, positively impacting them now and for the rest of their lives.
They also support our families to meet their children’s needs in the home and provide them with respite.
The Peter Pan Centre truly do give children with special needs the best start in life. So please, even if it's just the change in your penny jar, if you can donate and help us reach our target we'll be so incredibly grateful.
Thank you!
