Phil's Amazing Glioblastoma Survival Story, 8 January 2024
We fund life-saving research to help cancer patients everywhere.

Story

Did you know that in 2018 the Government pledged to give £60m to research into Brain Tumours, in light of the sad death of MP Tessa Jowell to Glioblastoma.

🔴To date, only £10m has been released.

🔴Standard of Care treatment for Glioblastoma hasn't changed in 30 years. 3️⃣0️⃣

🔴The mean survival for a diagnosis of Glioblastoma is less than a 1️⃣ year.

On Monday 8th January 2024, our amazing 😘strong 👊 resilient🛡️ fearless 😎 warrior 🪖 dad, husband, son, brother, uncle, colleague, friend - Phil Williams, has survived with a grade IV Glioblastoma for an AMAZING

🌟3️⃣ years 2️⃣ months 2️⃣6️⃣ days🌟

(despite having been told he could only expect to live 6>9 months in October 2020. 💪)

Monday 8th, he had a state-of-the-art surgery using a chemical called Gliolan (The Pink Drink) which lights up tumour cells as pink under UV lighting.

Surgery also uses detailed MRI / MEP/ SSEP guided surgery, to guide the surgeon safely. This will "turn the clock back" for Phil.

Following this, they'll send tissue samples off to Addenbrookes in Cambridge and Illumina genetic sequencing labs, who use a new A.I. driven biometric full genomic spectrum analysis funded by Minderoo, which will hopefully show, amongst other faulty genes, a mutation of gene PIK3CA.

Thus he may be eligible to take part in a new research trial, led and FUNDED by the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity. This promises to be a groundbreaking move in medical science in the early steps towards truly personalised cancer treatments & therapies.

💷The trial is NOT government funded. 💷

Instead, It will be funded by The Marsden & other charitable organisations. The Minderoo Foundation, is an Australian philanthropist organisation who are championing many global challenges. The research study will also enlist help through collaboration with big pharma organisations like kazia who developed the drug Paxalicib. This is the drug that will inhibit further growth of the tumour, the faulty gene PIK3CA.

All of this will give Cancer a very nasty setback, and other genetic information the biomarker report gives us could also hold promise for further treatment options.

We hope that in consideration of all those who have sadly already lost their lives, all those who continue to fight & those who'll benefit in the future from research; you might either contribute to the amazing work the Royal Marsden do; to drive forward the fight for treatments & cures for Cancer, or you'll put your hands together & take a moment to be mindful, send positivity, or pray for all of our warriors; patients & carers.

Whatever you feel you can do, share this, donate, or just send positive vibes to us, we thank you 🙏

Love from Ali Phil Nick & Dan (& Bailey 🐕 & Scully 🐈!)
