As most of you may already be aware, our beautiful daughter Billie was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia in November 2022 at just 1 year old. Since then Billie has undergone months of intensive chemotherapy, immunotherapy and is now in the maintenance phase of her treatment which is due to finish in February 2025. Like other children battling cancer, Billie has had a really rough time and it has been heartbreaking as her parents to watch her be so unwell and go through such harsh treatments. Billie unfortunately suffered from a rare side effect of vocal cord palsy which was caused by a chemotherapy she received, this meant Billie had to have a tracheostomy to save her life. Having a tracheostomy has been life changing for not only Billie but to us all as a family. This happening to Billie showed us that kinder and more effective treatment for leukaemia is needed, especially for children!

That’s why we chose to raise money for Leukaemia UK. Leukaemia UK is the UK’s dedicated leukaemia research charity, determined to save and improve the lives of those affected by leukaemia, by funding world-class research and ground-breaking care.

We firmly believe that research has the power to make a difference and truly change lives. We want to bring about positive change, through accelerating progress in diagnosis, treatment and care for those living with leukaemia today and for everyone diagnosed tomorrow and in the future.

We don’t want other families to have to go through what we have, that’s why Freyja and Zac, Billie’s Parents have decided to run the London Marathon for Leukaemia UK. We want to turn our pain in to purpose and hopefully change the future for people with Leukaemia! We know this won’t be an easy challenge, but if children like Billie can go through gruelling cancer treatment, then we can run 26.2 miles!!

Our lives have been changed forever by Billie’s cancer diagnosis, but hopefully by doing this we can make even the tiniest difference and stop Leukaemia from devastating the lives of more people.
